Today I created a practise copy of a double page in a music magazine this contained different live shot image that i took at a gig. The double page also included an article about the band and there music carrier. I also used different questions that then band answers in a interview.

This was the double page i need to add more colour to these pages as there is too much white on the page which is not very appealing.

Primary Research:

I as part of my primary research, I created a questionnaire about music magazines and what the audience would like to see more or less of in a magazine. Once the questions are completed and i have my results these will help me come up with different ideas for my music magazine front cover and double page spread.

Music Magazine Analyse

Today I looked at different music magazine front covers. I analysed the font cover pointing out the main aspects and the differnt effects on teh reader. This will help me with the different effects to use when creating my own front cover. I looked at differnt genres of magazine such as NME and Kerrang.

The title of the magazine is NME

The main image is Florence and the machines. There are six other images of different bands/singers.

The main headline is “the music issue NMEs 10 tips for 2009. This is on a yellow background strip and uses red and black colour text which stands out, also uses the colour scheme.

Other heading are the band names which stand out to the reader.

The word plus, is promoting the magazine adding more information to what is inside the magazine.

The overall colour for the magazine is white, red, yellow and black.

The range of articles inside the magazine will include the different bands/singers of the front cover.

Another Magazine Front Cover

The title of the magazine is NME

The main image is The Wombats, this images is used as the background for the magazine. There are six other images of different bands/singers. There is also a image of the T in the park logo which relates to the genre of the magazine.

The main headline is “The Wombats” The wombat’s part is in a yellow, this is bright and stands out to catch the readers attention.

Another smaller heading is a slogan about the main band the wombats “why Britain’s gone silly for the lords of the indie dance floor” this shows the reader inside the magazine about the wombats. There is also heading relating to the other images used, this is to give the reader more information about what’s inside the magazine.

There front page include two heading boxes at the top and bottom. At the top of the front cover uses a yellow background with black text making it stand out, this includes different band names, and will make the reader want to know more.

There is not an overall colour for the magazine is but yellow is used a lot making the stand out over the image background there is also blue background text which stands out. Also white, red and black is used as these.

Today I started to pick different photos that i have taken at live music events. I chose the ones that look most effective or close up shot. I started to edit them and cit around the backgorund if not needed.
My first idea was to use a live shot image of a band member, but now i feel that a composed image will look more better as it will use the rule of thirds and look clear on front page. My other images can be used inside the magazine on the double page spread article.

College Magazine

Today i finished creating my college magazine contents page. I used the colours purple, blue and yellow. I chose these colour as the purple matches the college logo. I chose the blue to make the magazine appeal to male as purple is for more females. I also put yellow to make the page more colour full and bright.

I inserted a picture of a student playing the guitar this was to get students involved in the magazine using images of other students, I added a yellow border to this image to make the image more colourful and adds to the colour scheme. I also inserted the different logos for the Kcc live radio station and college.

I used bold purple lines to separate the different parts of the contents page and as most magazine use this line effect.

This is the college magazine front cover that i created.

The main image was taken in KCC live which in a big part of Roby college and relates well with the magazine. The image uses the rule of thirds, this leaves plenty of space for text, heading, images all around the main image. I inserted smaller image like the college logo and the KCC live logo as these both are about the college. I used different heading about the inside the magazine these were to get the student involved.

Research

Today I carried on with researching for my music magazine. I typed a questionnaire which is primary research. The questionairs is to give out to the magazine audience. The qustions were to give me an idea of what the auidience want to see inside a magazine.

I used question liked gender and age to show what age group will be reading the magazine also the differntence between what male and female reader like ro see insdie the magazine. I ask about the genre the listen to and the type of magazine they buy so i could research these is detail to see teh differnt links. I ask what would teh most like to see/read inside the magazine, gave the options of band interview, articles, storys and others, this was to see what would be best suited for my double page inside my magazine.

I also began to creat a draft sketch of the layout of my magazine front cover.

Research-Skills

Today we went around the college taking picture for are college magazine front cover. We took pictures of different areas around the college.

We took pictures in the KCC live radio station as this station for are college. I took pictures of the equipment and students using the radio to.

I imported the images and stated to create my magazine front cover, editing the image to fit the page and to cut around the image background using the magic wand tool.

Research

21/09/09
Today we started to research magazine, I looked through a variety of different music magazines of all genres, we analysed them all discussing the layout, pictures, titles and tag lines. I pointed out all the aspects that appear in most of the magazines. Then I sketch my own version of a music magazine which included the different aspects of the magazines.

We also looked at the photography of the magazines and they way in which the photos are taken. I found that most of the photos were in the center with the eyes of the main photo about a third of the way up the page.

We went in groups around the college to practise taking pictures using the rule of thirds. I practise taking group shots and individual shots to get the right angle and framing.
